Of great importance today is the subject of town planning. Throughout the nineteenth century in all industrial countries of the world the same thing occurred. In England, in the middle of the nineteenth century, one-half of the population lived in towns; the other half lived in the country. Towns grew in a haphazard way. Houses were huddled together, and railways had found a way in, often to a most inconvenient part of the town. There was no plan in the arrangement of the town.
