In System International (SI) there are seven base units. They are the following:
- the metre (m) as the unit of length;
- the kilogram (kg) as the unit of mass;
- the second (s) as the unit of time;
- the ampere (A) as the unit of electric current;
- the kelvin (K) as the unit of (thermodynamic) temperature difference;
- the mole (mol) as the unit of substance;
- the candela (cd) as the unit of luminous intensity.
All other SI units are derived from the seven base units. They are the joule, the watt, the pascal, the newton and, most interestingly, the unit of charge, the coulomb.

Your weight is the force that you exert on the Earth. It is a result of gravity acting on your body. Weight differs from mass: your mass is constant whatever the force of gravity. In the 4-th century BC in Greece, there were only a few schools, and none taught science. It was left to philosophers to come up with logical explanations of the world. Aristotle studied under the famous philosopher Plato, who regarded thought or the idea as the basis of all knowledge.
