1. Pedagogy is usually defined as the art, or science, of teaching, and sometimes the profession of teaching. For both Gage (1985) and Simon (1994) it is somehow both: «The science of the art of teaching». At the same time, both Woods (1996) and Reynolds (1998) see it as science. Pedagogy refers to the teaching of children and its sister word «andragogy» refers to the teaching of adults.
2. Teachers apply pedagogic principles in a wide range of settings with an equally wide range of groups and individuals who present many varied challenges. Executing a pedagogical approach depends to a large extent on the judgement of the professional teacher and the practical skills that the teacher has learned and practised.
So «pedagogy» has come to refer to the skills and approaches used by teachers to achieve the aims of the lessons that they teach, or the methods which they employ. These methods vary from teacher to teacher and from time to time according to the nature of the subject being taught, or the possible responses of the children being taught. When new facilities or equipment are to be used this can lead to a new or different pedagogical approach being adopted. This has, to some extent, been the case with the advent of ICT in schools and with the use of the internet.
3. Teachers have theories and systems of beliefs concerning teaching, and the way in which learning takes place that influence their approach to teaching. Decisions which teachers take before, during and after teaching a lesson have a deep influence on the learning that takes place in their classrooms.

The extract I am going to speak about is from the monograph «Effective Teaching with Internet Technologies» written by Alan Pritchard. Pedagogy refers to the art and science of educating children. An individual teacher is ultimately responsible for the delivery of high-quality educational services to learners. Every teacher has a personal approach to teaching. A variety of factors influence a teacher’s personal approach. Firstly, educational philosophy is an important factor for its development as teachers have theories and systems of beliefs concerning teaching. Secondly, the practical skills that the teacher has learned and practiced, in other words, teacher’s craft knowledge. Thirdly, experiential background has a great impact on a teacher’s view on learning.
I’ve read the passage from the monograph «Effective Teaching with Internet Technologies» written by Alan Pritchard. The extract deals with the problems of the science of pedagogy. Pedagogy studies teaching children. By the way, andragogy refers to teaching adults. To make a long story short they are two different sciences. The approach chosen by the teacher dictates the type and style of learning that is encouraged. Teachers need to have clear learning outcomes in mind, and according to these, plan appropriately. It’s up to teachers to choose methods and facilities according to the nature of the subject and children’s responses. As you know, the internet’s becoming an important resource for use in schools.
The word «pedagogy» means teaching children. It is an open secret that teachers play a great role in realization of learning process and students’ achievements. Teachers show a wide variety of behaviors in the classroom. These differences in classroom practices reflect an individual teaching style and approach. Teachers are responsible for making decisions about what will be learned, how it will be learned, when it will be learned and direct learning. So it is as clear as day that a pedagogical approach has a deep effect on the achievement of the expected learning outcomes that teachers formulate and work towards.
The extract I would like to speak about is from the monograph «Effective Teaching with Internet Technologies» written by Alan Pritchard. The main idea of the extract is to reveal such problems as interconnection between learning theory and practice and academic freedom of teachers. In this regard it is said that an individual teacher can subscribe to a particular preferred approach to teaching and employ any methods appropriate to the learning situation and the nature of the subject. Great importance is attached to practical skills of teachers and the experiences they have in their job that influence the realization of learning process and its outcomes. The passage also indicates an impact of new facilities such as ICT in general and the internet in particular on pedagogical approach to teaching.
