One of the centres of the American automobile industry is Detroit. It is located in the southeast of Michigan, on the Detroit River, connecting Lakes Erie and St. Clair, right opposite Windsor, in Canada. It was founded in 1701 by a French trader Antoine de la Monte Cadillac, who built a fort on the river. Later, thanks to Henry Ford, Detroit became the leading centre of the automobile industry.
