To protect an IC from static surge invasion, the Emi Guard electromagnetic interference (EMI) filter provides a surge-absorbing function. Use of a proprietary three-terminal capacitor structure for the varistor allows it to absorb the static surge that invades the I/O pins of a semiconductor IC; this prevents IC destruction. ICs that static surges of 1 kV normally destroy will withstand static surges of 15 kV. The filter provides a static capacity of 130 pF + 20 per cent (at 1 kHz), a DC resistance of 200 to 500, a rated voltage of dc 25 V, a rated current of DC 20 mA, a surge withstanding current of 15 A (twice in 8/20 µs) and operating temperature range of – 25 to 85˚C.
