Mr Karel Peeters lives in a small village called Baasrode, in the centre of Belgium. He made a chocolate bar that is now listed in the Guinness Book of Records. Baasrode used to be an important eel-fishing village, so Mr Peeters made his chocolate bar in the shape of an eel. It took him three hundred hours to make the chocolate eel. It was 7.5 metres long, 35 centimetres around, and weighed 920 kilograms! After it was made the world record was confirmed, the giant chocolate bar was divided among the 6,000 people who live in the village of Baasrode.

In the past, cacao farmers in Brazil grew trees on small farms in the rain forests. Then they decided that they could grow more trees and make more money if they had bigger farms. To make space for the farms, farmers often cut down parts of the rain forest. However, farmers soon realized that cacao trees that are planted on farms in the open get too much sun. They are not as healthy as trees that grow in the forest, protected from the sun by shade of the larger trees.

In some places, the rain forest is growing again where it had been destroyed for cacao farms. This is a very good change, because everyone in the world needs the rain forest, to help the planet ‘breathe’. And healthier cacao trees mean more chocolate for everyone!
