The ЕАС1 field computer was designed to be used in harsh environments. It is waterproof, sand and dustproof and will withstand a 2-metre drop onto a hard surface. It operates in a wide temperature range of -20˚C to +60˚C (- 4˚А to +140˚F). It can be carried in the bend of one arm; the other arm is left free to operate the system with either the pen or keyboard. The field computer gives users a choice of the best data entry methods, both pen-based and key-board. Pen input is the fastest and most intuitive way of accessing software functions and selecting attribute choices in the field. In addition, a full alphanumeric keyboard is standard and allows entering large amounts of feature and attributes text data. The standard model supports a maximum resolution of 600 dpi (non-interpolated) and generates image data in composite colour, monochrome and black-and-white. The scanner precisely positions a RGB line camera segment by segment across the rotating drum. The system will charge batteries up to 110 per cent of their manufacturer-rated (nominal) capacities, and restores memory-impaired batteries to 98 per cent of their former capacities. The system is easier on batteries than slow- and fast-charging methods, with over-charge and over-heat batteries by force-feeding current. Using a custom IC, the battery chargers read the electrochemical potential of a battery under charge, and determines its internal condition. They change the flow of current during millisecond-scale periods.

A pyroelectric infra-red sensor is using a conductive bonding agent to fix the pyroelectric element to the lead terminals of the stem. As a result, the clearance between the element and the alumina substrate holding the circuit remains constant, a construction that avoids heat dissipation. The element itself is between 50 and 100 µm thick, to offer appropriate heat capacity and handling ease.
